About Silver

Silver have the atomic number 47 which symbol is Ag. The characteristic are soft, white, and lustrous transition metal. Sterling silver is a precious metal which consists of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metal (mainly copper) to improve its durability, as pure silver usually too soft for jewellery and easily scratches. With proper care, your silver jewellery will retain its beauty and character for many generations to come. Also, silver metal is used in many pro-modern monetary systems in bullion coin alongside with gold. Silver is more abundant than gold, and much less abundant as a native metal.

 

Oxidised finish is often used on sterling silver which oxidation process imitated the natural tarnishing process. The process leaves the sterling silver with a vintage looking a grey finish. Usually, silver is favour for plating (surface coating) with another metal which is done in order to change the appearance of the jewellery piece or to prevent it from tarnishing. Some jewellery piece may use black rhodium plating on select sterling silver pieces to giving an attractive dark finish.

 

GoldGeGa recommends to washing silver jewellery after use in warm water with a mild detergent; as many food acids and gases in the air can have a corrosive effect to silver. Once cleaned and polished, silver must be kept dry and properly stored.
